There is a paradox developing in the absenteeism issue:
- some are abusing the system to get a "medical vacation", a prolonged weekend or even actual vacation; trend is so big that we are having record numbers of medical leave and noticeable loss of GDP.
- at the same time there is also a rise in 'sickness presenteeism', the number of sick workers who should be on medical leave, and yet they stay at work; there is noone to finish the job so the honest workers work double to replace those who are faking it.
- all this affects the businesses, and put additional pressure on the sick, because the health care system has to deal with people who abuse the system instead of the sick who are deprived of a better healthcare.
- then there is a psychological pressire of the sick upon themselves: feeling of guilt, when they are resting while their coworkers have to work double because of them.
This should not even be on the table. Detective controls of medical leave are not meant to find the offenders but also for the sick to get fair treatment.
